New York Steps Up Security Ahead of India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Match
As excitement builds for the upcoming T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan, scheduled for June 9, 2024, in New York, authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of spectators and players amidst reports of potential threats. While no credible evidence has been found to support these reports, security coverage will be heightened at the Eisenhower Park stadium, where the match will take place.
Located about 25 miles east of Manhattan, Eisenhower Park stadium will be the venue for eight matches from June 3 to June 12, including the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan. Governor Kathy Hochul of New York has reassured the public that her administration, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, has been diligently preparing for these games for months.
“I have also directed the New York State Police to engage in elevated security measures, including an increased law enforcement presence, advanced surveillance, and thorough screening processes,” Governor Hochul stated. “Public safety is my top priority, and we are committed to ensuring the Cricket World Cup is a safe, enjoyable experience.”
Despite the absence of corroborative evidence for the reported threats, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has emphasized that security measures will be robust across the tournament, including at the New York venue. A spokesperson for the ICC reiterated their commitment to prioritizing the safety and security of everyone involved in the event.
India’s cricket team is scheduled to play four matches in New York, starting with a game against Ireland on June 5, followed by the highly anticipated showdown with Pakistan. Subsequent matches include a fixture against the USA on June 12, along with a warm-up game against Bangladesh. Although the Indian team has already arrived in the US and commenced training, star player Virat Kohli is yet to join the squad after being granted some time off.
In light of recent reassurances from the ICC and Cricket West Indies, co-hosts of the T20 World Cup, fans and players can be assured that every possible measure is being taken to ensure their safety. As preparations continue for this thrilling sporting event, authorities remain vigilant to address any potential security concerns and uphold the integrity of the game.
